Christian advice on magic?

would you let your kid's go to a magic show? a friend of mine is thinking about hiring a 'magician' for her kids 10th birthday. witchcraft is clearly mentioned as a sin in Galatians 5, i don't think its fair to put children in a position of sin.

5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.Christian advice on magic?
Witchcraft is not of God and should not at all be practiced by anyone especially those who are Christians.

God will cast down everything that seeks to exalt itself against the knowledge of him. Withes and witchcraft are apart of the ';worldly'; things that God is not pleased with. Magic should not all be used for your child's party.

And the child is not being put in the position of sin. The adult who made the conscious decision to hire the magician is.

And even though a ';fake'; magician may not be doing real magic, you are teaching kids that doing magic is cool and good and that is not cool.

Everyone will be held accountable for their actions on judgment day. Please don't hire this person. A clown would probably be better lol.Christian advice on magic?
I admire the fact that you're trying to be careful about what your children are exposed too, but if this is going to be a magician at a ten-year-old's birthday party, then I don't think it would be considered a sin. The kind of magic that would be sinful would be dark magic (seances, calling up spirits, etc.). The kind at the birthday party is probably going to be only harmless optical illusions.
Not meaning to offend you or anything, but magic is not evil, %26amp; the bible has been changed countless of times from the original script thousands of years ago. Besides, your kids are young %26amp; would want to enjoy themselves by watching something interesting. I mean, what's going to happen? It's not a sin to just watch something disapear %26amp; appear somewhere else. They're just tricks that people always don't catch with their eyes. Like the saying goes ';a magician never tells his secrets';. That's because they don't want people to know how they did the trick, it ruins the fun out of it.
I'm not Christian but I think that the bible is talking about real magic, not party tricks. There is no real magic in magicians they are just entertainers. If you are a real Christian you shouldn't be judging people anyways. Plus god is not going to punish children if they are not aware that they are sinning, even if it is a sin.

10 is old enough to know that it is just an illusion or slight of hand. As long as he doesn't get the impression that the show is real and not just a trick. Remember that there were magicians mentioned in the Bible. The problem is when they try to claim what they do is real, and not just a trick or slight of hand that you can't visual catch.

In fact buy him a magic set, so you can demonstrate to him that magic is based on deception. It will be a good learning experience.
Well i'd say it would be fine because it's not really magic, it's just ';slight of hand'; i would just establish the fact, to your children, that he isn't using any ';magic'; and that its only an illusion. Yes magic is bad, but these are ';tricks'; and ';slight of hand'; not magic
I am Wiccan you must open your eyes! I do not worship anything evil or satin there is nothing evil about it. Try doing doing some research! if the bible told you to jump off a bridge would you? No! don't believe everything it says. Im not trying to offend you its just make sure you know the facts before you believe in something you know nothing about!

And a magician plays tricks with your mind illusions it has nothing to do with sins.
yeah, but stage magicians don't actually practice witchcraft, they practice sleight of hand. And the kind of witchcraft referenced was more of a religion than a practice involving sacrifice to false idols and such. I think thats why idolatry and witchcraft were put next to each other
I don't think magic is satanic. I like magic, it's called sleight of hand or illusion, and everyone knows it's just a talented person distracting you so he can do something clever.
no they should be fine. its just illusions. but serton ';magic'; is satans works. magic shows are harmless so its ok. however if they are casting spells that bring money etc. its satan and his demons at work. the same as praying to budda. youll get that after bowing 3000 times, because a demon answered you, after answering a few times he'll stop and kill you sprituail. so a magic show should be fine
Hmm.... Personally, I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's just for fun and, as they get older, they'll figure out that this wasn't really any sort of magic. Or, I don't know, maybe you could call this magician and illusionist (or something to that extent) to take the emphasis off magic.

You make the final call, though. When you really look into it, that sure makes you think....
Refreshing, a Chr5istian who actually practices her beliefs. Good for you! Just so you know, the ';magic'; is not actual Biblical magic. It is entertainment, just like TV wrestling is not real wrestling. Still, you are making a point and you raise your kids as you see fit.
Most of the devils weapons are illusion. I don't think Majic shows are witchcraft. But im not sure. I would pray about it. But if i still wasn't sure i wouldn't let them go. Better to be safe than sorry. You are being a good mom.
You know, as nature loving as i am, i don't think too much of you either.

It isn't your child, therefore it isn't your decision. I'm sure your friend would appreciate you keeping your opinions to yourself.
A magic show isn't witchcraft, genius. It's some lame bunch of tricks, usually performed poorly.
I don't think it means ';Performing Arts'; its not real magic or spells or voodoo its just cool tricks... I think that's going a little to far. Harry Potter is more of the ';sin'; type of magic.
well a childs magigian wont be doing ';real'; whichcraft he will just be doing tricks so i think that a magigian would be fine for a childs birthday.
Your poor kids. Don't make them miss out on all the fun things childhood brings. It is not real magic in case you didn't know.
It's just an illusion and used for entertainment. They are illusionists.
witchcraft = turning people into frogs...

magicians pull rabbits out of hats...
Well magic tricks aren't really magic. They're just illusions. Why don't you pray to God about an answer?
Magic, really. you do know the magic the bible speak of isn't these little illusions they do today.
dude the bible is so outdated seriously man it needs to be rewritten.
I AM A WITCH UND I ADVIZE YA TO REFRAIN..

I LL CAST A SPELL TOMORROW UND FLY OUT ON MEIN BROOM WITH BRISTLES
I pity your children.
Wow...
its not a sin to watch a magic show
While the Bible is absolutely clear that magic is forbidden.--

Leviticus 19:26 -- “‘YOU must not look for omens, and YOU must not practice magic.''

Deuteronomy 18:10-12 '' There should not be found in you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, anyone who employs divination, a practicer of magic or anyone who looks for omens or a sorcerer, or one who binds others with a spell or anyone who consults a spirit medium or a professional foreteller of events or anyone who inquires of the dead. For everybody doing these things is something detestable to Jehovah. . .''

You have to understand the difference between magic and party tricks.

Magic according to the Bible is the use of uncanny powers from the spirit realm.

Isaiah 1:13 . . ''.— I cannot put up with the [use of] uncanny power along with the solemn assembly. . .''

Not only that, but the people that employ such things , even such seemingly innocent things such as reading their horoscope or getting their palms read are something detestable to God.

So the performers that do so called magic tricks are NOT using power from the spirit realm.

They are using tricks of the eye , and illusions and these are not condemned in the Bible.

It is NOT the magic that is spoken about and condemned in the scriptures.

Historically, magic is closely related or associated with the occult. Many people in both ancient and modern times believe that the magic practiced by witches is performed to bring harm to others. Witches are credited with the power to inflict severe pain and even death by means of magic.

Little do we give though to entertainment that promotes magic. For instance, “Harry Potter” (movie and book), which promotes sorcery and divination, TV shows “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” and “Charmed,” which promoted witchcraft, talking animals (dog), and using magical powers to their advantage.

Traditionally, witches have been blamed for an almost limitless array of misfortunes, including illness, death, and crop failure. Witches today strongly deny such charges.

While acknowledging the existence of the occasional rogue witch who pursues evil, most maintain that their magic is used to bring benefits, not harm.

Wiccans teach that the effects of magic will return threefold to the person practicing it and say that this is a major deterrent to the pronouncing of curses.

Examples of this so-called benevolent magic include spells to protect yourself, to purify your home from negative energy left behind by former tenants, to make a person fall in love with you, to promote healing and health, to prevent the loss of your job, and to acquire money. With such sweeping powers being attributed to witchcraft, it is not surprising that it has become so popular.

The Bible, however, makes no distinction between magic that is good and magic that is evil. In the Law given to Moses, God made his position quite clear. He said: “You must not practice magic.” (Leviticus 19:26)

Deuteronomy 18:10-12: “There should not be found in you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, anyone who employs divination, a practicer of magic or anyone who looks for omens or a sorcerer, or one who binds others with a spell or anyone who consults a spirit medium or a professional foreteller of events or anyone who inquires of the dead. For everybody doing these things is something detestable to Jehovah, and on account of these detestable things Jehovah your God is driving them away from before you.”

Why did God say that? It is not because he intends to deny us what is beneficial. Jehovah gave these laws to his people because he loved them and did not want them to become enslaved by fear and superstition.

Instead, he invites his servants to approach him for the things they need. He is the Giver of “every good gift and every perfect present.” (James 1:17) The apostle John assured fellow believers: “Whatever we ask we receive from [God], because we are observing his commandments and are doing the things that are pleasing in his eyes.” (1 John 3:22.)
