Your mom and dad should chill. I am a Christian, and I enjoy reading horoscopes for the same reason. That doesn't mean I believe in astrology as a religion, it's just fun.Need advice with fortune/ christian????
Ephesians 6:1, Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.

Obey your parents, in the Lord. They love you. The people who are going against their instruction to you, do not.

Revelation 22:12-21 the last chapter in God's written Word says;

12And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

13I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.

14Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

15For without are dogs, and SORCERERS, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

16I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.

17And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

18For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

19And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

20He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

21The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

Please don't disrespect your Lord and Savior.
Check out the book of Micah, there are quite a few references to fortune tellers, seers, and soothsayers.

Also look into what they are REALLY telling you. Is it mostly information about the past, sprinkled with some vague reference to the future? That is nothing more than familiar spirits who have been around forever and know everything that has HAPPENED...past tense. The bible tells us that God and God alone knows the future so what exactly are they telling you?

Not really something that you want to be playing around with!
going to a fortune teller gives people mixed messages. cuz' they don't rely on God for what they are telling you, and sometimes are satanists. i can see why your parents aren't happy, to them, you're playing a game with God. Going to church, then going to a fortune teller. That's what's wrong with it.
Even my devote Roman Catholic mother goes to psychics at Lily Dale. In the beginning of ';the Church';, the Priest did it too. I am Wiccan so I am biased here but I believe that there is nothing wrong with it. Your still practicing your faith, have fun with it.

You are flirting with demons...listen to your parents.
Yeah.....

So this woman I know broke up with her abusive husband and then she called a fortune teller on a 900 number. The fortune teller told her to go back with the guy and everything would be okay.

I did not go to the funeral.

I do not think fortune tellers are funny, or kewl or even okay.
';Abstain from all appearance of evil.'; 1 Thessalonians 5:22

Satan aways trys to make sin look fun.

';let God be true, but every man a liar;'; Romans 3:4

';Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made.'; Genesis 3:1

';Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:'; 1 Peter 5:8

';For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee. But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it,...'; Matthew 12:37-39

';He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times? A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it,...'; Matthew 16:2-4

';No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.'; Matthew 6:24
oh good god. I had paretns like that. Don't dance close to guys, you may be tempted. Don't listen to secular music. Dont' listen to other beliefs, you will be lead astray. Tell your parents that you worship God only. that christainity is not about works... it's right there. God doens't want us to 'do' things and 'stop things'. He wants us just as we are. And for pete's sake to back off and stop trying to run your life with guilt
It appears that wasting time runs in your family.
Well, the reality is that both organized religion as well as fortune-tellers are just different types of business, and both operate in a way that takes your money, while attempting to offer you something that has no basis in reality or fact. If you choose to believe either one, you are just deluding yourself.
As a guy I could say I go to strip clubs as a hobby. It's an art appreciation thing.

Why does it matter so much to you what those fortune tellers say? Isn't trusting God enough?

You're opening the door for Satan to establish a strongholdin your life just as I would be doing looking at the artwork.

You may not be worshiping them outright, but you're sitting on the fence without even realizing it. You've fallen for another one of Satan's little deceptions. Read about Eve and the serpent again.
Sweetie, your parents are SO right on this! The Bible tells us we are to have nothing to do with things of the occult. It is an abomination to God. We are to trust our future to God alone, and seek His wisdom and will for our lives. You can't serve God and dabble in things of satan. This isn't a fun, harmless hobby--don't be deceived. :)
Deu 18:9 When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.

Deu 18:10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,

Deu 18:11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

Deu 18:12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

Deu 18:13 Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God.

Your are wrong, child. Honor your mother and father and listen to them, don't be in rebellion.
Why shouldn't they let you go. It's your choice. And they think your worshipping them, and you know your not, then they are wrong. And, as I said before, it's your choice. even if you are christian. Since when has doing your hobbies become all of a sudden wrong. I hope your parents know they can't control what you do forever.
I trust in certain fortune tellers, as long as they don't charge money. I met people who used to charge donations to hungry people. It is OK to seek mediums for advice as long as they are not liars and charge money. The Prophet Joseph from the Bible used to read into dreams to the King and yet he was a man of God. Some religious people are against horoscope too, but the three wise men (magi) that visited Jesus when He was born followed a star to get to Him. I think that we shouldn't be so rigid about ourselves. Good feelings in your heart, good connection with God, love and forgiveness in your spirit, and go for it... you'll be just fine!

Peace!
You are playing with fire and opening yourself up to deceiving spirits.

The Bible makes it very clear there are only two sources of supernatural revelation - the power of God and the power of Satan.

God explicitly condemns going to fortunetellers:

';When you come into the land that the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominable practices of those nations. There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering,anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the LORD. And because of these abominations the LORD your God is driving them out before you.You shall be blameless before the LORD your God,for these nations, which you are about to dispossess, listen to fortune-tellers and to diviners. But as for you, the LORD your God has not allowed you to do this.';

Deuteronomy 18:9-14, English Standard Version

There is one case of a girl who could tell fortunes in Acts chapter 16.

The Apostle Paul cast a spirit out of her and immediately she lost her ability to tell fortunes.

Do you really want to play around with demons?

Repent, turn around while you can, and renounce these things, and ask the Lord to forgive you, before you become enslaved by them.
Somewhere in the bible it does mention that fortune telling is evil.
I see where you both are coming from. You see the thrill, and your parents see a sin. I understand you just wanting to see if the fortune is right, but that's why everyone goes to fortune tellers, to see if their future will turn out. I don't think you're worshiping them, but you ARE acknowleding them, and taking place in things like that is wrong.
Fortune telling is a sin, and you are not supposed to have ';fun'; with the things that are sinful, and may even lead you to sin. I know you are not worshiping them, but if you have God's spirit within you, you'll consider such things to be an abomination as they truly are!

A few references below

Jesus frees us from all addictions to sin,

Andrew
If you believe in God, then you know that no one can tell you what is in store, but Him, making fortune tellers worthless. They may be right sometimes, but God is perfect all the time. Respect your parents. They have been around a lot longer than you and have seen and been through things that you have no idea about yet. Sure it may seem harmless to you now, But there is more to fortune tellers than meets the eye.

Feel me?
Sorry, Devoted, nowhere in the bible does it mention that fortune telling is evil. Reread, please.

If you go, make sure that they are reputable and not some scam artist. And no, it isn't evil.
God ordained prophets in the past. But if they're telling you which guy is going to like you or one of your friends is going to betray you, that's smaller stuff than God warning He's going to destroy a city...

I understand about it being a hobby. It can be interesting! But they always said that you can judge whether a prophet is of God if EVERYTHING they say comes true. If not...the potential of doing something wrong may outweigh a ';fun hobby.';

I guess the next question would be if you ascribe to their beliefs..if so, i'm afraid they're right. It's even in the bible. Prophets are okay, fortunetellers are not. Only ones ordained by God are permissable. If you don't ascribe to their beliefs, then theres no reason to ask the question. It moves to worldly morals and that's where you decide on your own.
tell your parents you just do it for the fun of it
Seeking a psychic is not wrong, nor is it evil!!! The negativity that reaches you is man made. Don't listen to these people filling your brain that it is evil. That is for the misguided people that think that everything the Bible says is true.

Just be careful. Make sure that you are dealing with a reputable psychic that is working for God and through God. Nothing is wrong with making sure you are on the right path in your life and yes, all for God!!

P.S. If a psychic ever tells you to give them more money to lift a curse for you......run and find reputable psychic. There is no such thing as a curse. Unless of course you want to believe in such a ridiculous thing.
You're parents are right. You shouldn't get into that stuff and shouldn't believe any of it. Put that time and energy you're wasting with this ';hobby'; into knowing Jesus more. He's the ONLY truth you need, Honey! :)
Fortune telling is opposite of God's plan for us. He will have no false gods before Him. You will have to be exorcised now. Sorry. Everytime we go away from trusting in His goodness, we need healing.
you are all wrong

why would god care if you went to see those people.

If you are not worshiping them they are wrong.

You are doubly wrong because you are a religouse person who seeks advice from fortune tellers.

So you beleive that there is a huge man in the sky who has loadsa bird winged freinds, who is all powerful yet alows innosent people to suffer. then If you thank him and pray all the time, you will sit on a big cloud behind huge pearly gates.

Also that your future can be told in a deck of cards.
Ok heres your fortune for right this minute.

Your reading my answer......Presto.

As long as you don't start believing that jive your safe.
The only reason why mainstream religion doesn't like fortune tellers and other charlatans is because they take away the money the church would normally be getting from gullible people.

Either way it is all nonsense. Save your money, or better yet, find someone who actually needs it.
If you are a devout Christian then there is nothing wrong. No one in Christianity is perfectly sin-less. Also, with the new generations, the church is constantly changing, but adults seem to want it to stick to the old ways, so I wouldn't worry too miuch about it.
